Where We Live: Architecture of San Francisco - Houses

Being from New England, living in a house from the 1600, 1700 or 1800's is commonplace, however, I've come to discover that San Francisco is a city of a different build. Since the majority of the city was destroyed during the 1906 earthquake + fire, it has a relatively new feel, which isn't necessarily bad. There are some beautiful homes (+ buildings) around the city and certainly no lack of character! The houses here are an incredible living history of architectural styles in the 20th century. Much like the weather changes from hill to hill, so does the architecture. Most of my current favorites are the ornate Victorian + Edwardian (think Painted Ladies) style houses around the city.

I'm hoping to take time and see the mid-century modern Joseph Eichler Diamond Heights neighborhood soon.

On the Road: San Francisco Bay Area

Having just moved to the Bay Area, I want nothing more than to see absolutely everything IMMEDIATELY! While I know it is going to take some time, we've spent the past few weekends trying to put a dent in the list.

Even though it seems to be overcast and foggy EVERY TIME we head to the Marin Headlands, it is always stunningly beautiful! Always be sure to bring a sturdy pair of shoes for hiking & a jacket in case it gets breezy.

After exploring a bit of the north, we wound our way down 84 to the famous Highway 1. Some rock hopping at Pescadero State Beach led to trying to outrun the tide! A bit more meandering down the coast brought us to Año Nuevo State Park and my new best friends -- the elephant seals!

Another weekend, another trip north on Highway 1 [we even got a little sunshine!] The drive lives up to everything written and spoken about it. You could pull over every five feet to take in the gorgeous views, but then you wouldn't get anywhere! Most definitely a bucket list item -- I highly recommend everyone drive at least a section of the highway once in their life!
